Learn about our Team

Camp Kesher has camp directors from many different walks of life. We have a congregational leader who lives in Brooklyn, New York, a doctor who leads a congregation in Virginia, and a businessman who grew up going to the precursor to Camp Kesher, Camp Simchat Yeladim when he was a kid.

We also offer the opportunity to four young adults ages 17-35 to serve as counselors for the week. This is an awesome opportunity to give back and for them to grow in their leadership skills.

All of our camp counselors and leaders undergo a background check against criminal and sex crime databases and come with multiple references from spiritual leaders.

David Falkowitz

Camp Leader

Some of you may know me from my previous involvement with Camp Kesher, and I am looking forward to this new season and all that G-d has in store for Camp Kesher. I’ve been a part of Messianic camps for the better part of two decades, ever since I tagged along with my Mom at age 6 when she was a counselor in the 90’s! I’ve been blessed to be a counselor at Camp Kesher since it first started, and I am currently involved with Messianic ministry in New York city. I am especially looking forward to the worship music, bible studies, color war, and the amazing friendships that are fostered while at camp.

Michael Herts

Michael Herts

Camp Leader

Dr. Michael Herts, a Jewish believer in Jesus, was raised on Long Island, New York. He faithfully attended a Conservative Jewish synagogue and became a Bar Mitzvah at age 13. In 10th grade he was first exposed to the good news of Messiah in an understandable way. After almost two years of searching, he came to believe that Jesus is the Jewish Messiah.

Mike grew up going to a summer camp in New Hampshire where he also served as a CIT. As a college student he also served on staff at camps in New York and Texas. In his experience he has seen countless lives changed for the Lord, and still enjoys lifelong relationships formed in his years in camp.

Over the years Mike has served in leadership positions in various congregational settings. In 2005 he formed a team to plant B’nai Avraham Messianic Fellowship in Hampton, Virginia. In 2009 he received his ordination. In July 2010 he accepted the invitation to serve God with Chosen People Ministries.

His wife Debbi is a retired United States Air Force Colonel. He is also the proud father of three wonderful children who each love the Lord and have all been to Camp Kesher. He earned a Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.), and a Master of Education (M.Ed.). He is currently working on a Master of Divinity (M.Div.).

Robert and Joanna Walter

Robert and Joanna Walter

Camp Leaders

Robert and Joanna Walter serve with Chosen People Ministries in Brooklyn, NY. While neither one is Jewish, God laid a heavy burden on their hearts to share Messiah with His chosen people shortly after they came to believe.

Robert grew up in a secular home in New Jersey and came to faith in Yeshua at the age of 19. He then moved to South Florida and was introduced to Messianic Judaism through a friend. His call to Jewish ministry was solidified when a young Orthodox Jewish friend of his came to believe in Messiah.

Joanna had a similar upbringing in Florida and accepted Yeshua at the age of 21. Early in her walk she began attending a Jewish roots Bible study taught by Chosen People Ministries staff at her church in West Palm Beach and soon developed a burden to reach Jewish people for Messiah.

Robert and Joanna both enrolled at Palm Beach Atlantic University and became very involved with Chosen People Ministries’ congregation and outreaches in the South Florida area. It was here that their relationship with the Ministry began, as well as their relationship with each other. The two were married in 2007 and came on staff with Chosen People Ministries the same year.

The couple moved to Brooklyn with their two small children in 2010. Robert completed his seminary studies at the Charles Feinberg Center for Messianic Jewish Studies in 2013 and now serves as a congregational leader, the director of Chosen People Ministries Brooklyn Branch, and teaches first year Greek at the seminary.
