While across America, people celebrated the nation’s independence, Camp Kesher began our week focusing on the truth that sets us free—John 8:31–32, which is our theme.
“If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”
Campers and staff could feel the joy tangibly as they reconnected after two long years. Some were not recognizable because they had changed so much since being away. The cabins circled around to form cohort names. The buzz of a new week felt like a family reunion.
As the sun was setting, we made our introductions, and a comical skit explained the camp rules. It was a hit! Our talented worship team led familiar songs. Robert Walter led us in a devotional from John chapter eight to prepare us for the week ahead. His encouragement was to silence all the inner voices and distractions and listen for the voice of truth. God’s truth will set us free.
We finished the night with some fireworks by the pool. Campers enjoyed their beloved night swim, a yearly tradition, to wrap up Sunday evening. We are looking forward to a great week!
