Sunday
Camp began with a splash—literally. As campers arrived, the heavens opened and poured out abundant wet blessings on all of us. This did not deter the middle girl cabin, whose occupants danced in the rain.
We are celebrating the beginning of a fabulous week. Campers reunited with friends from over the years. Cabin mates chose new unique names to represent their cabins, to be revealed tomorrow morning at Mishkan (chapel).
As evening fell, so did the temperature. Campers grabbed sweatshirts and headed for our first worship meeting. Counselors introduced themselves and told their favorite childhood story and why. It was a great start to highlight our theme of week, Parables.
One of our staff led our devotion. When he asked the campers why Jesus used parables, one little boy raised, his hand and said, “I think Yeshua used parables to help us remember his words.”
Yes! Stories have the ability to imprint themselves in our minds and hearts. That ability is our hope and prayer for this week. We want the life-giving parables of Jesus to reach deep into the heart of each camper.
We finished the evening with games in the gym and our traditional night swim. It was a fantastic start to the week!
