Shining smiles and warm sun rays welcomed Camp Kesher East 2025. As the kids settled in, they got to know each other through icebreakers and by creating cabin names and posters that most accurately represented them, building unity within their cabins that reflects our unity in Messiah. Our theme of the week is “Unshakeable Faith”.
During our evening Mishkan (chapel) service, we reflected on 1 Samuel 16:6–12 and how the Lord looks at the heart, not the outward appearance like man does. The campers were encouraged by the truth that, despite what the world perceives as our limitations, we are chosen by God for a purpose. During the transition between day and night, we took a dip in the pool, making a splash. The lesser lights that have dominion over the night illuminated our time of play at the pool. Then arose the greater light that has dominion over the day, and to get our blood moving and shake off the dust collected overnight, we kick-started the day with morning calisthenics. The moment when the camp directors revealed the Color Wars team colors finally arrived, sparking excitement and anticipation among the campers. Returning campers had tried to pry that information out of the counselors.
The colors for this year’s Color Wars are blue and green! Following morning devotions and morning Mishkan, where we sang typical camp songs and had a Hebrew moment (when we learn a Hebrew word), we explored the unshakeable connection between Tsur Israel (the rock of Israel) and our camp theme. From the interaction with the campers, Tsur Israel (the rock of Israel) was described as strong, firm, and unbreakable. A moment is never wasted, and time is always redeemed at camp. The day was filled with activity rotations, such as boating and the challenge course. Some rain clouds visited us, but they blessed us with a respite from the heat.
