Spirits were high, and smiles filled the room when campers saw that the campgrounds were dressed with Israeli flags and sparkly blue garlands. Israel Day was truly a memorable experience.
The day began with some important conversations about the fight against antisemitism. Camp leaders emphasized a biblical truth: as believers, the Lord has not given us a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). It is essential to recognize that antisemitism is a spiritual battle fueled by the enemy. The leaders encouraged the campers to be courageous and to stand against antisemitism, providing them with practical strategies to do so.
Once we wrapped up those serious talks, we moved on to a well-deserved lunch that was nothing short of amazing. Picture this: plates filled with crispy falafel, soft pita bread, creamy hummus, and a bright, refreshing Israeli salad. It was a feast that brought smiles to everyone’s faces, perfectly fueling us for the activities ahead.
With our stomachs full, it was time to hit the dance floor for some Israeli dancing. The energy was contagious! We added a competitive twist, which led to a lot of laughter as everyone tried to outshine one another with their moves.
The evening mishkan (chapel) focused on the theme of unshakeable friendships, drawing from 1 Samuel 20:12–23, 35–42. The message explored the relationship between Jonathan and David, highlighting the qualities that made Jonathan such a good friend. We examined these observations to apply them to our friendships.
It was one of those days filled with fun, joy, and a strong sense of community, leaving everyone with unforgettable memories. Israel Day was an event to cherish!
