Two very straight color team lines were formed early this morning. The mint team won points for the straightest line as they wiped the sleep from their eyes. Then, calisthenics proved to get the campers awake and moving again. With a heat wave on the horizon, the kids were strongly encouraged to hydrate often and, before we knew it, the day was upon us.
Each cabin rotated through floor hockey, the ropes course, arts and crafts, and soccer. A cool drink and a light lunch came just at the right time. Everyone loves Taco Tuesday! Campers dispersed to their cabins for their daily Sabbath time. Counselors and team captains worked with each one to help them memorize their memory verse for the day. It was a joy to hear the words of Psalm 46:10 roll off the tongues and into their hearts:
“Cease striving and know that I am God.”
Our focus for the day was to recognize the truth that we need God in our life and that it is important to take time to get to know the one who loves us most.
As the heat rose, our afternoon plans changed. Bathing suits would be essential for our afternoon activity. A giant slip-and-slide would be needed to cool down the campers! Smiles went whizzing by Zachariah with the hose. What an amazing way to cool off for the afternoon!
Sergei brought an encouraging message with tangible illustrations. Sometimes we need help from outside of ourselves. God wants to be involved in our everyday lives. Our job is to look for Him—for His provision and peace.
We celebrated Josh Forman’s eleventh birthday with birthday candles and a pie to the face. He didn’t seem to mind the extra whip cream! Always a camp tradition.
The only way to end the night was with another night swim to cool off the campers. This will ensure a sweet night’s rest. Laila tov!
