On the fifth day of Camp Kesher, we were moved by the story of Yeshua and His first disciples during our morning devotions. As we studied Matthew 4:18–25, we were struck by Yeshua’s poignant fisherman metaphor and the unwavering response of the disciples to His call. The idea of leaving everything behind to follow Yeshua resonated deeply with us, and we pondered how we can courageously answer His call in our own lives.
Amid the morning rotation, the campers experienced the delightful opportunity to tie-dye their Camp Kesher t-shirts. Eagerly taking part, they adorned their shirts with captivating swirls, gentle fades, intriguing crumples, and striking bullseye designs, leaving behind colorful, ink-stained hands. The camp-wide games brought an atmosphere of joy and friendly competition. The older cabins engaged in an intense tug of war, their passionate determination evident as they used every ounce of strength in playful rivalry. Meanwhile, the younger cabins determinedly competed in the gym, energetically dodging, diving, and thoroughly enjoying a spirited game of dodgeball.
The theme of the Miskhan (chapel) service asked a profoundly personal question: “Is He calling you?” This theme was illustrated through the powerful story of Zacchaeus, inspiring us to consider the profound character and sacrifice required to heed Yeshua’s call. The climactic moment of the service saw many campers step forward to publicly declare their decision to follow Yeshua. They were embraced by the loving support of the counselors and camp directors, who offered heartfelt prayers and encouragement, creating a moving and uplifting scene filled with jubilation and gratitude. It was a true testament to the transformative power of faith.
Following the evening of Miskhan (chapel), separate campfires were held for the boys’ and girls’ cabins. The palpable and powerful presence of the Lord continued to permeate the atmosphere as campers told heartfelt testimonies and immersed themselves in uninhibited praise and worship. As we reflected on the day’s events, we earnestly prayed the seeds of faith sown in the campers’ hearts would find fertile ground and be gently nurtured by the wise counsel of mature believers. Our heartfelt supplication also extended to a request for protection from any forces seeking to undermine the budding faith of the campers, trusting in the Lord’s divine guidance and safeguarding.
