Day 1 & 2
Camp Kesher 2016 is officially underway! We opened up on Sunday as all of our campers arrived and settled into their cabins. Our first Mishkan service was highlighted by a talented worship team and an introduction to our theme for the week—“Nehemiah: Building and Being Built.” Our speaker, Dr. Michael Herts, shared from Nehemiah 1 on how God can use you right where you are if your heart is set on Him!
On our first full day of camp our campers were busy canoeing, climbing the rock wall, and having a great time in the Nerf Zone in the morning. After lunch we split up into special electives. We played soccer, did arts and crafts, held a Davidic dance class, and were blessed to have one of our Feinberg Students, Joel M., who is a black belt in Kung-Fu, teach a self-defense class. We also had a camp-wide game of Capture the Flag. Despite a bit of rain, we all had a great time!
The campers have also started memorizing their daily Bible verses. Every day all campers memorize the verse and recite it to their counselor. Today’s verses are Luke 12:6-7, “Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.”
In our morning worship session we introduced the campers to our “Hebrew Moment,” an opportunity to teach about a significant aspect of Messianic Jewish heritage. Our most seasoned counselor Israel C., who has been a counselor with us since 1982, shared about what it means to keep kosher.
All in all we are off to a great start. Please pray for us!
