Welcome!
What an incredible start to the week! After a prayerful and inspiring leaders’ meeting, we were thrilled to welcome 75 campers to Camp Kesher East in Honey Brook, PA.
From the moment they arrived, campers were greeted by our friendly staff and escorted to their cabins, where the fun began right away! Each cabin chose a creative name and designed a sign to proudly display outside their cabin for the week.
Our first meal together was a delicious feast of chicken, homemade potatoes, couscous, and fresh bread. Judging by the long line for seconds, it’s safe to say our phenomenal camp chef is already a camper favorite!
The excitement continued at Mishkan—our daily chapel service, name meaning Tabernacle—where each cabin proudly introduced its new name. The energy soared as our counselors danced their way to the front, celebrating the beginning of an unforgettable week together. Campers also watched a fun and engaging video introducing our 10 camp rules, filled with plenty of laughs while helping everyone learn how to make camp safe and enjoyable for all.
We then began worshiping together, singing “in unity” as our amazing worship team led us in praising G-d. It was a beautiful reminder that, although we come from different places, we are one camp family, united in Messiah.
During our opening session, Derek Blumenthal shared the story of Samuel from 1 Samuel 3. Three times, the Lord called Samuel, yet Samuel did not yet recognize His voice. When he finally understood that it was G-d calling him, Samuel responded with one simple but life-changing word: “Hineni” (הנני)—”Here I am.” It is more than just an answer; it means, “I am fully here, ready, willing, and available for whatever You have for me.”
Derek reminded our campers that G-d doesn’t wait until we have everything figured out before He calls us. He meets us right where we are. Our part is simply to listen, respond, and say, “Hineni.” It was a meaningful message that challenged each camper to open their heart to whatever God wants to do in their life this week.
Before heading to bed, every camper was encouraged to spend just 60 seconds alone with God. No distractions. No agenda. Just a quiet moment to pray, “Hineni… Here I am, Lord. I’m listening.” We are praying that this simple practice becomes the beginning of a lifelong habit of hearing and responding to God’s voice.
Of course, no first night at camp would be complete without some extra fun! We wrapped up the evening with a refreshing night swim before a gentle, calming summer storm rolled in over camp. As the rain fell, campers gathered for gym games, laughter with friends, and relaxed cabin time, ending an incredible first day with grateful hearts.
What an unforgettable start to Camp Kesher East! We can’t wait to see all that G-d has in store for Camp Kesher East this week!
